Part of working with the younger population is passing down the concepts of giving back, paying it forward, and community contribution. If you hang around with NICA (Hutchinson Composite – Disciples of Dirt) for any time, you will hear the term Trail Core.
Often, as citizens, people enjoy things without the concept of “Hey, who built this?”. You may travel to another state, get out of the car at a trailhead, and hike on in. You soak up the wildlife. You walk the trail to a babbling brook, maybe see a small fish pop up for a fly, and hop over a few rocks. While it is super tempting to get spiritual and be in awe of creation, which there is nothing wrong with… someone made that trail.

Working with nature to make things that are fun, interactive, and beautiful is part of the mission. While not everyone in society is ready to grab an axe, shovel, or rake to forge new trails, part of the goal of NICA is to condition our athletes from a participation perspective.
Hutch Composite has reached out to Hutchinson in search of potential projects that may be bike-oriented, and we landed on the Pump Track at Carey Park.
The Pump Track has been in place for about a year, and maintaining the track’s surface has fallen behind a little bit. Our team, in an effort to combat “age” has agreed to rough up, smooth out, and re-wet the surface of the surrounding dirt track to the paved pump track.
Since we installed the grass a year ago, it is fitting that we continue to work on this project and keep it a shining gem in the Hutchinson landscape.
Our community is super-blessed to have such an amazing pump track, especially in the environment that is Carey Park, surrounding it. Let’s work to keep it awesome.
